Date of Birth:August 9, 1968 Star Sign:Leo Place of Birth:Chicago, Illinois Height:5'3" Hair:Blonde, coloured auburn Eyes:Hazel Parents:Rosemary and Edward Siblings:Two Marital Status: Divorced but was married to Clyde Klotz Children:Piper, born during the early part of the second season's filming on September 24, 1994 Gillian Anderson attended Fountain Elementary, Grand Rapids Michigan and graduated from City High in the same town. She attended DePaul University's prestigious Goodman Theatre School, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Finally, after deciding between careers in archaeology, marine biology and acting, she studied at the National Theatre of Great Britain at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. She first became interested in acting in Grand Rapids where she became involved in community theatre. While attending DePaul University she earned a role in The Turning but moved east at graduation, choosing to pursue a career in theatre instead of film. Three years later she appeared in The Philanthropist at the Long Wharf Theatre and after performing in a production of Alan Ayckbourne's Absent Friends, she won a Theatre World Award, quite impressive considering she had only a few weeks to study. After this she appeared on television, first on "Home Fires Burning", then a talking book version of "Exit to Eden", and later an episode of "Class of '96". She wished to perform as a character in a series and the character of Dana Scully, a bright young woman who remained feminine yet had a demanding career, had an irresistible appeal for Gillian Anderson. Chris Carter had decided before hand that he had found his Dana Scully in Gillian Anderson and despite the fact the network would have preferred someone "taller, leggier, skinnier and with a lot more chest," they went with Carter and so Gillian Anderson became Special Agent Dana Scully. During her time on the show, Anderson got married to a producer on the show but sadly a few years later they divorced. Anderson sees her daughter Piper as often as she can, but does not like it when fans approach her while she is with her daughter, so be warned! When the show moved from Vancouver to Los Angeles, it meant that she could not see her daughter as much as she wished. It was then, at the same time as Duchovny, that she decided to leave the show. However, with a lot of persuasion, she agreed to do series eight and series nine with an increase of pay. During the eighth series she was the leading star and exercised her acting abilities as we never saw them before. Although many fans missed Duchovny, it was a wonder to watch Anderson act even better then was thought possible. |
