Born in New York, David Duchovny had decided that when the time came he would pursue his love of literature and become an English teacher, so he decided to attend Yale University where he achieved a graduate degree in English Literature. While at Yale he became interested in acting and started studying acting. He soon became so engrossed in his acting that, in 1987, he eventually decided to abandon his career as a would-be teacher and take up acting professionally.

If there is one thing that David Duchovny is remembered for before the X-Files, it's probably his famous portrayal as the transvestite Denis/Denise in Twin Peaks. Indeed who could not remember ever seeing David in a dress! However he was also highly credited for his portrayal with Mimi Rogers in "The Rapture".

Duchovny was attracted to the character of Mulder in the X-Files and after auditioning for the part was offered it by Chris Carter. Duchovny was never lacking for women. Many of which appeared in the X-Files, but it wasn't until 1997 that he finally met the love of his life Teá Leoni. Since then they have been inseperaple. They married in secret and are now the proud parents of two-year-old Madeline West and are to be blessed with another child shortly..

At the end of series seven, Duchovny decided enough was enough. He wished to leave the X-Files and pursue a movie career. However, luckily for us, he agreed to be in the series if he could get a lot of time off. Hence Mulder's abduction. He appeared in only fourteen episodes in series eight and declined to partake at all in series nine, commmenting that although at one time the series had been about Scully in Mulder's world, it was no longer about him and it wouldn't be fair to the character to continue. However he will appear in the series finale and any subsequent X-Files films.

We wish him all the luck and success in his film career, and thank him for brining the character of Mulder to life for all of us.
